The Chestnut Ancestor is the most ancient chestnut tree in the Tiejue Mountain, growing in the Ecological Recreational Park surviving over 400 years. Having weathered all kinds of hazards, the tree is still flourishing, blossoming, and high yielding. The stout trunk covered with thick foliage looks like a grandiosely clothed monk stop over at the Peak of Immortals on his way to the West to seek truth. It is said that the remaining chestnut trees are all offsprings of this tree. Hence, the name of “Chestnut Ancestor”. Dating from ancient times, people came up to the tree to prey for blessings.
Belonging to Fagaceae, and a hermophrodite, Chestnut is counted as Five Fruits together with peach, plum, apricot, and date.
